Is Google Chrome introducing a new payment system?

Ana sayfa / News

It’s been said that Google’s web browser Chrome engineers are working on a new payment system. According to this system, Chrome users will be able to pay for the paid internet content they consume on a per-content basis without having to go through any transaction process. Currently in its early stages, if the project materializes, it’s anticipated that it will provide online content creators with more revenue compared to the advertising or subscription systems.

With this system, content creators will receive payment for the consumption of their content instantly without the need for any subscription, thereby incentivizing the creation of new content. In fact, it’s known that this change has been debated since the 1990s. However, it’s apparent that paying for content per item might not be as profitable for internet users as subscription or advertising systems.

Of course, Google Chrome management won’t implement such a pricing innovation solely for the sake of content creators or users. Google aims to earn a small percentage commission from each content purchase, thereby increasing its revenue. However, it’s uncertain whether such a payment policy will be embraced by users in the long term. Payment policy expert Nick Szabo suggests that paying per content item would be a significant mental burden for users.
